A Tadworth man was left "distressed" after another man dislocated his finger, grabbed his car keys and slashed his car with a bottle opener in front of three children in a supermarket car park.
The suspect argued with the victim in the Asda car park in Reigate Road, Burgh Heath at around 3.15pm on Sunday, September 13, before snatching his car keys, dislocating his finger in the process.
The suspect, who was with a woman and three children at the time of the incident, is then said to have slashed the victim's Citroen ZX with a bottle opener.
The suspect is described as white, 5ft 7in, around 27 years old, of a slim or athletic build, bald with brown eyebrows, and was wearing a dark-coloured zip-up hooded jumper, possibly combat trousers and a dark-coloured woolly hat.
He is described as having a stud in his right eyebrow.
PC Nick Boulton said: "This was an unprovoked and unnecessary assault and keying of a car which occurred in a very public place in the middle of the day.
"As well as resulting in the dislocation of the victim's finger, this also caused him significant distress.
"We are extremely keen to talk to anyone we have not already spoken to who saw what happened, or anyone who recognises the man in the CCTV image as a matter of urgency.
"This was an extremely unpleasant incident and I am keen to trace the suspect and ensure that he is brought to justice."
